REVIEW: Hot and Cold

Hot and Cold by Mikey Lee and Amy Shaw

by Mikey Lee and Amy Shaw

Dani Moore is still emotionally recovering from a brutal assault. To help cope, she has been riding along with her homicide detective brother Clayton. Clayton get’s called to a crime scene and is partnered with the city’s new arson investigator Scott Walker. Just one look and Scott can’t get Dani out of his mind.

This was my first introduction to both Mikey Lee and Amy Shaw, however both have been on my TBR for a long time. I try not to pick up books in the middle of a series. Since this was a crossover I figured why not. I might not have the same affinity as someone who has read these characters before, but why not give it a try.

I loved how real the Hot and Cold cast is. I like to read stories about characters that have overcome something, and are making their way back to themselves. Dani is recovering from a bad assault. She has hang ups and she is working through them. Real life isn’t pure and sheltered, so why do we want to read about characters that are like that? The characters were the right amount of quirky making them feel like relatable like real people. Clayton is one of those annoying people that actually like to be awake early in the morning. Dani is a terrible cook, and Scott can’t tell the difference between wine and vinegar. But, they’re all normal people that could be my neighbors.

I don’t really get into crime dramas all that much. I find they are either too complicated to understand, or too transparent you know what’s coming a mile away. I really enjoyed this story. Even though I’m not a weapons expert I was able to follow and understand what was going on. I didn’t feel like I was in over my head even though the subject was very specialized. I have to admit I did do a little Googling and watched a few YouTube videos. At the same time, I didn’t feel like I knew what was going to happen from the beginning.

I would say my introduction to Mikey Lee and Amy Shaw was successful. Hot and Cold is a sweet romance and an intreaguing mystery. It really has something for everyone.
