Book Blogger RollUp: Why Do You Read Romance?

Reading After Dark Book Blogger Roll Up: Why do you read romance?

There are a lot of books out there. So how do you find the books that you want to read? The first thing you should do is start to understand what you like. Is there a genre that speaks to you? Do you like fiction or nonfiction. Do you like using your imagination to visit fantastical places and times? Do you want to read stories with steamy sex scenes? When you’re able to loosely identify what you like you can find and follow amazing blogs that reviews all their favorites stories, providing recommendations you’re sure to love <ahem *clears throat*>.

The romance is a very big genre to categorize. It focuses on the relationship between two people, and ends with an “emotionally satisfying and optimistic ending” (notice that didn’t say happily ever after).

So if you're here you're probably a fan of romance. But why? Well, we asked a bunch of our blogger friends (they read A LOT) why they read romance, and here is what they had to say:

There’s no better escape that falling into an all-consuming love story. The kind that makes you smile and forget the world, the kind that makes you cry and cheer for their happy ever after. I read romance because I love all those feelings, love how evocative and immersive a love story can be.

Reading romance is my passion. I have always been a romantic a heart. My love for reading romance started when I was in my teens with Nicholas Sparks and it has since grown. I read romance because I love the butterflies. I love to get a happily ever after, and I love falling in love all over again. There is so much negative in the world and reading is my escape, therefore I choose to escape into the world of love.

I read romance because I enjoy reading about all the different ways people fall in love. Also I’m a sucker for a happy ending and romance novels nearly always end happy!

I'm a wife and mother of two teenagers. I'm a caretaker for my disabled veteran husband and I read an average of 4 books a week. I read pretty much any type of romance except for PNR/Fantasy.

I read books to get lost in a new and different world. I read romance because it makes my heart happy. Sometimes it reminds me of how lucky I am to have found lasting love so early and sometimes it opens my mind to things I might have missed out on. Romances aren’t always just flowers and sunshine. They aren’t just mommy porn. They are funny and heartbreaking, dark and eye-opening. There’s so much more to most romances than just man meets woman and they fall in love. There’s a romance for everyone out there, I wholeheartedly believe that. I like living in a different love story each time I open a new book.

I'm a busy mom. Somehow between homeschooling my kids and doing life I manage to read... by read I mean devour fictional stories. I started my blog because reading was getting very expensive and book bloggers get free books, right?! I have gotten a couple books because of my blog but mostly I have just found that I enjoy the community. To talk about my fictional lives with other book nerds has been a fun escape for me.

I read romance because I love LOVE. Sometimes when I get deep into a book I’ll go back and re-read the section where the main characters meet just to be able to experience it after knowing their story. I love to hear people’s love stories, real and fiction. Fiction is usually better though. My favorite stories are when the author writes it so that your heart rips to pieces only to be pieced back together again by the end. It’s important that you know that I loathe tragedies, so it’s imperative that if the author does rip my heart out that they do put it back better than they found it. Otherwise I will throw the book in an open flame and run down the street naked and screaming.

Always up to try a new author. Only read romance, and it's many sub genres

I have always loved that romance, isn’t just ‘romance’ there are so many sub genres that it’s like romance is an added bonus. It takes you away to another place. You have comedy, suspense, second chance, military, bdsm, and more.

Romance gives you hope for the future that love still exist and is a great escape from reality. Romance books bring you happy, feel good feelings, no matter what is going on in your personal life and in the world. I love love and seeing people fall in love. I love happy endings. When you find a good book with characters you love, they stay with you long after you are finished the book, just like good friends.

I am a special education teacher by day and a voracious romance reader by night! I started blogging almost 3 years ago because my husband got tired of hearing about the books I read and I wanted someone to talk to! I love just about all genres of romance as long as there is no cheating and an HEA!

I read romance because I love LOVE!! The world is filled with horrible things daily; romance gives me a chance to escape and focus on the butterflies in the tummy feeling of falling in love! I love that I know that no matter how crappy the world is, the characters I am falling in love with will get their happily ever after!

I'm a lifelong reader who has always shared my love of books with everyone I can, young or old. Now that my nest is empty, I've enjoyed moving past children's books and YA and going back to my first love, Romance. Now that my nest is empty and I ended up having to retire early, I'm lucky enough to be able to read, review, and blog almost every day. I run EDGy Reviews with two of my best friends (even though we are on opposite sides of the world). I love that although we love some of the same authors, between the three of us we hit most all romance genres with our individual tastes in books.

I can’t remember a time when I didn’t read, but it was my Gramma that had me reading romances from a fairly young age. I think she was trying to give me some happily ever afters to immerse myself in during difficult times and it worked. The books she smuggled to me quickly became my escape from a world gone crazy. Even knowing the characters weren’t real, they gave me hope that no matter how bad things get, HEA’s are possible. When I found my own alpha male, I knew what a treasure he was and grabbed hold. To this day when my stress levels go up, I reach for a romance book. When I’m in the mood for a changeup, I can easily find what I need within the genre itself. With all the sub-genres like paranormal, sci-fi or suspense, I’m not missing a thing by sticking to my hot alphas and the strong women who love them. I can never repay the gift my Gramma gave me all those years ago by giving me books that bring happy memories, help me escape when life gets too much, and have kept me entertained all these years.

I read to keep those wheels turning and to take a break from real life. We all have so many things going on in our lives, it’s nice to disconnect for a few!

Romance books are my guilty pleasure! They are my way to relax and de-stress. I can get lost in a good book! I love to be swept away by someone’s love story! It’s nice to read about happily ever afters because that doesn’t always happen in life. Romance books just make me happy! :)
