Book Blogger RollUp: Why Do You Read Romance?

Book Blogger RollUp: Why Do You Read Romance?

The romance is a very big genre to categorize. It focuses on the relationship between two people, and ends with an “emotionally satisfying and optimistic ending” (notice that didn’t say happily ever after).

So if you're here you're probably a fan of romance. But why? Well, we asked a bunch of our blogger friends (they read A LOT) why they read romance, and here is what they had to say:

REVIEW: Tommy Boy

REVIEW: Tommy Boy

Read a review of Tommy Boy: A Panty Whisperer Prequel, by Sloane Howell.

Tommy is your typical college student. It is just ask likely that he can be found drinking as studying. CC is not your typical coed. She’s a fan of Star Wars and all the best retro video games, basically she’s the perfect woman. As it goes with young love, the two connect pretty quickly and catch themselves fighting the urge to get too serious too fast.

BOOK REVIEW: Hollywood Dirt

BOOK REVIEW: Hollywood Dirt

Read reviews from April and Aracely for Alessandra Torre's Hollywood Dirty.

Hollywood Dirty is an enemy to lovers tale with the passion that can only be found in the south. Torre connects two characters that cannot be any different, the underachieving Summer with the fantastical Cole Masten (he’s so important people call him by both his names). Their connection starts more like a collision when egos and tempers collide leading to combustible sexual tension.

REVIEW: Ghosted

REVIEW: Ghosted

Read a review of J.M. Darhower's Ghosted.

Ghosted is a wonderful story about young love, following your dreams, and the hope that everyone deserves a second chance. Darhower has given us a story about hard work, family, and she even threw in some pretty steamy sexiness. At the same time and more importantly, she has also given us a story with poignant and visceral commentary on important contemporary issues many families face. Darhower tackles some of the ugly situations of physical abuse, substance abuse, and being a single parent. She does it in a way that will make your heart bleed, but still have hope.

EXCERPT: Cocky Chef

EXCERPT: Cocky Chef

Read an excerpt from Cocky Chef by JD Hawkins.

You can call me arrogant as much as you want. But when you're the best at what you do and have the hottest restaurant on the west coast, with enough Michelin stars to make Gordon Ramsay's head spin, you've earned the right to your confidence.

When I give an instruction in the kitchen, it's not a suggestion--it's an order. So when a new chef thinks she can do things her way, and dares to say so to my face, even her sharp wit and gorgeous pouty lips don't make it okay.

But I have to admit, she's got talent. She's creative in the kitchen and not even that double-breasted chef jacket can hide her perfect body. As I get to know her, I can't help wanting to know everything she thinks. I've never met a more talented chef. And I've never met a sassier and sexier woman in my life.

There's only one way this push and pull can end.

With her in my bed, begging for more.

REVIEW: Sweet Dreams

REVIEW: Sweet Dreams

Read a review of Kristen Ashley's Sweet Dreams.

Sweet Dreams is the perfect cross-section of genres to hit my sweet spot. It’s a little sweet. It’s a little funny. It's a little sexy. It’s a little dark. At times, it’s even a little unexpected.

This book was recommend by Natasha Tomic from Natasha is a Book Junkie.

Natasha is a Book Junkie has been one of my favorite blogs for a very long time. I knew that she was a big fan of Kristen Ashley’s from the blog. She mentioned Sweet Dreams in particular several times.  And...I can totally see why it’s one of Natasha’s favorite re-reads. I’ve already read it three times. Sweet Dreams is such a robust story that you need to read it more than once just to appreciate it all.

EXCERPT: Unprofessional

EXCERPT: Unprofessional

Read an excerpt from Unprofessional by JD Hawkins.

What happens when the internet's favorite playboy falls in love?

I have the best job in the world. Date beautiful women and write about it.

But I want to take it to the next level: instead of writing about my experiences make it into an online reality show.

But here is the catch. My boss wants me to share the show with a woman co-host. And he wants that woman to be my best friend and co-worker, Margo.

I’ll date beautiful women and she’ll date hot men. Sounds fair enough.

So now I have to watch her fake date hot men. I used to love going home with a different woman every night, but suddenly this isn’t as fun. Seeing Margo with anyone else is driving me crazy.

And the more time I spend with her working on the show, the less I want to keep our relationship in the friends’ zone. And the harder it is to stop myself from imagining her bent over the copier.

Things are about to get unprofessional.

REVIEW: Kinky Carnival Games: Maybe Mandy 1

REVIEW: Kinky Carnival Games: Maybe Mandy 1

Read my review of Kinky Carnival Games: Maybe Mandy 1 by Chris Genovese.

It’s always a beautiful day when a people realize they are okay with themselves. They can be social when they want to be and be alone when they want to be. Through Braden, Mandy is finally able to find her way back to herself. It’s not just hot sex, but hot sexcapades that lets Mandy open up and let go.

This is as light-hearted as erotica gets. It’s like a night out with the girls without the alcohol, and regret the next day. Genovese has a real handle on the female psyche. The stand strong attitude followed by the crippling self-doubt. He also provides commentary that sometimes sex is fun, and silly. It’s also hot AF!

REVIEW: Hot and Cold

REVIEW: Hot and Cold

This was my first introduction to both Mikey Lee and Amy Shaw, however both have been on my TBR for a long time. I try not to pick up books in the middle of a series. Since this was a crossover I figured why not. I might not have the same affinity as someone who has read these characters before, but why not give it a try.

I don’t really get into crime dramas all that much. I find they are either too complicated to understand, or too transparent you know what’s coming a mile away. I really enjoyed this story. Even though I’m not a weapons expert I was able to follow and understand what was going on. I didn’t feel like I was in over my head even though the subject was very specialized. I have to admin I did do a little Googling and watched a few YouTube videos. At the same time, I didn’t feel like I knew what was going to happen from the beginning.

I would say my introduction to Mikey Lee and Amy Shaw was successful. Hot and Cold is a sweet romance and an intreaguing mystery. It really has something for everyone.

EXCERPT: Preppy: Part Two

Read an excerpt from TM Frazier's Preppy: Part Two.

Preppy finds himself back in a world he once loved, but no longer recognizes. His dim smile can’t hide his inner turmoil and the people he views as family all suddenly feel like polite strangers.

Except for one person. A girl with dark eyes and even darker hair.
A girl who isn’t even an option.

At least, not anymore.

Dre can’t decide who she’s going to listen to. Her heart, her head, or her body. Because two out of those three things have her heading right back to Logan’s Beach. Closure is what she tells herself she’s seeking, but when she unlocks doors that were never meant to be opened she soon discovers that when it comes to Samuel Clearwater, closure might NEVER be an option.
